Simply put, if you don't know the Dominican Republic's dance crew Da Twenty One, you're missing out. These days, it's Guillermo De La Cruz and Josue de Jesus Contrera and they're packing dance moves for days. We had the chance to sit down with Guillermo and find out where his head and heart are these days.World of Dance: Can you give us a little background about the crew? How long have you been together/how did you meet?Guillermo De La Cruz: The group is composed of two people currently. We have participated in different audiovisual — members of the group Da Twenty-One (DA21), winners of different national competitions in the country, such as Urban War, Choreography Festival of Santiago, Estrella Latina, Club Gallístico de Jacagua, Hip Hop Dance Challenge, among others. We have about eight years that we met dancing, two months and days after the death of Michael Jackson, which led us to form our group that was composed of several young people.WOD: What were you feeling going into the competition?GDLC: Upon entering the competition, we thanked God for the great opportunity we would have to realize our dreams and grow as dancers to do a good job.

WOD: What is your favorite part of competing in World of Dance?GDLC: Our favorite part was to meet and share with great stars of dance and have a good acceptance of the public with our work and that of everyone.WOD: What part of your dance, choreography, or performance are you most proud of?GDLC: Part of our motivation and pride was to work with an incredibly talented saxophonist, to make a fusion of him and us, plus an object that we used; it impacted us a lot.

WOD: What exciting things will you be doing/focusing on in the next year?GDLC: For the next year, we will work to overcome and bring a totally different proposal to the other (competitions).WOD: Why do you think dance is important to the world?GDLC: Dancing is important because it frees people. Dance is not only dance, but an art that expresses itself with body and soul. Dancing is important for the world because the world without dancing would be a life without purpose.

WOD: What’s your favorite part about being a crew?GDLC: To be a team is to be a family; it is to share great ideas, good and bad moments, to help each other, and, despite everything that happens, a team must stay together.WOD: Anything else you’d like to add?GDLC: We thank God for everything.
