Genesis of Dance Journey & Style
She started dancing when she was 5 years old. She grew up as a competitive dancer and trained in all styles from tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and more. She was actually a very shy kid, and dancing brought her out of her shell. She got more into the industry when she was 10 years old, when a video of her very first hip-hop solo went viral from Katy Perry retweeting it. Slowly from there, she started learning from the top choreographers in Los Angeles and taking every single class that she could take. Throughout the years, her dance style has changed and has become a fusion of all the different styles that she’s learned. She wouldn’t necessarily say it’s one specific thing, but a fusion of all styles she’s trained in. Her love and her core of dance have always come from vulnerability and storytelling as she believes dance is another form of communicating and connecting with people.
Influences and Inspirations
Ever since she was younger, she was always asked who her dance influences were, and she could never say there was one specific person. Her dance influences have always been people that she’s looked up to not only as incredible dancers but also as humans, too, and the amount of passion that they put into their work. But the main thing that influences her in dancing is being able to take a feeling and express it through movement. Whether it’s hip-hop or contemporary, she loves to use her movement to inspire others through something internally that she can share.
Ambitions beyond the stage
Dancers are creators. They are artists. They are athletes and they strive to be the best version of themselves. She thinks that goes for being human as well. Her ambitions as a dancer and as a human correlate with each other because she just wants to be the best version of herself. She believes that if you are a beautiful human inside and out, that carries into your work. And she’s so eager to create with purpose and the fact that dance can reach so many people outside of dancers is something that inspires her to want to use it for good. Whether that’s entertaining or inspiring or just being herself and people connecting and seeing something in her. She wants to be able to use her platform and her gift to encourage others to do the same with love and positivity.
A legacy of accomplishments
She conveys, she’s been so lucky, fortunate enough to have worked from a really young age and done some incredible things. Some of her favorite experiences have been the Super Bowl halftime show with Missy Elliott and Katy Perry. Being on our NBC World of Dance tv show was such a special time for her. She has also danced for Jackson Wang at Coachella and Pharrell Williams at the Oscars. She’s worked with brands such as Nike and created her shoe with them being one of the first dancers to have worked with them at a young age. She’s taught at some of the biggest dance conventions overseas, as well as choreographing for K-pop artists such as J.Y.Park.
Teaching Journey & Expectations at World of Dance Summit
Her teaching journey started when she was around 14 or 15 years old. She was always hard on herself because she was still so young and wanting to learn even more before she was able to give. But what she learned is you can still be a student even in your classes and she learned just as much as what she gives and anyone in her classes. All she asks is for students at the World of Dance Summit is to be vulnerable, to have fun, and to be themselves. Individuality is so important and she respects dancers for the amount of hard work that they put into their craft. Teaching has been a roller coaster ride, and she’s learned to not compare herself to other people. She loves energy from people so that she can give 100% of that energy back and that’s what creates such a special and safe environment for all of us whenever you’re in her class.
A Message of resilience and kindness
She encourages everyone to never lose sight of who they are. Life is not easy and life is not perfect. We expect perfection of ourselves when that’s not even something that is possible. We are always going to constantly grow and evolve and it’s important to allow yourself to fall and get back up. Being a good human inside and out goes along way and carries into the other parts of your life. As dancers, we have this unique gift of being able to communicate with people through movement so even when words aren’t used, we can speak loudly through what we love. And lastly, love one another and be kind to each other.
In conclusion, Kaycee Rice’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of dance. Through her artistry and her unwavering commitment to spreading positivity, she continues to inspire dancers and dreamers around the world.
