Exclusive Q&A with Toadface on His New LP: Bugs For Breakfast
When it comes to music, we're constantly on the lookout for something new and inspiring. We recently caught up with Toadface to talk about his new LP: Bugs For Breakfast which he calls "a swampy psychedelic bass journey." He talks about the new project, his inspiration, and even how he'd like to partner with the Backstreet Boys.
WOD: What are you most proud of with this new release? What was the inspiration behind it?
I am proud of every track on the release but I think “Cronenberg” is the current crowning achievement. There are so many techniques packed into that track it would take forever for us to explain everything we did.I am really inspired by the current trends in EDM especially dubstep and trap but wanted to play with the expectations of the genres and make each track more of a psychedelic journey.
WOD: Can you describe your workflow process? How do you start a track? What’s the process to finish your tracks?
I usually start with sound design trying to make a unique sound the will inspire me in what direction I want to take the rest of the project. I will experiment with all sorts of different techniques until I like the way it's sounding. I normally do drums last because they are the backbone and usually help accentuate and compliment the rest of the track.
WOD: If you could collaborate with any dancer with one of your tracks, who would it be?
I don’t know too many dancer’s honestly. If I could pick anyone in the world I would probably get one of the Backstreet Boys to do a dance to a flip I made of one of their songs. Nick Carter if you’re reading this, hit my line.
WOD: What do you wish people knew about Toadface?
I just want people to know that I am having so much fun writing my music and I hope my fans have just as much fun listening to it and if they have any feedback, I read every single thing people send me and the response so far has made me a very happy Toad :)
