Exclusive Q&A With NBC World of Dance's Lauren Yakima

WOD: How did it feel when you found out you’d be on Season 3?
LY: I was overwhelmed with emotion and so excited! I couldn’t believe one of my biggest dreams was coming true!
WOD: What style are you performing, and why?
LY: I’m performing a powerful contemporary style because it’s the style I connect the most with and even though I am trained in many other styles of dance, I most like to move with power.
WOD: How long have you been dancing, or dancing with your group?
LY: I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old.
WOD: Where do you draw inspiration from? Who/what inspires you?
LY: I am inspired by my sister, Amy, and my choreographer, Kayla Kalbfleisch, because they both have a unique way to their movements which is mesmerizing to watch.
WOD: What do you think your fans would want to know about you?
LY: I just recently started a cosmetology apprenticeship because I love doinghair, makeup, and nails. I am really excited to do this in my future, as wellas dance professionally!
WOD: Why do you think dance is important to the world?
LY: I think dance is important because it can connect people to an idea or feeling in a way that encompasses more than just one sense or one emotion, or just words.
WOD: What are you most excited/nervous about being on the show?
LY: I’m the most excited about performing in front of the amazing judges on the WOD stage! I’m usually never super nervous to perform but the first time I was on the WOD stage, I was terrified!
WOD: What sets you apart from the competition?
LY: I have a powerful dynamic within my contemporary movement and a strong performance quality.
