This charming Canadian duo showcased their talent and showmanship this season- and made us laugh in the progress. Find out more about Funkanometry, aka Carlow Rush and Jackson Fryer, in WOD Magazine's exclusive Q&A below.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-95_D4xrZeE&feature=youtu.be
WOD: How did it feel when you found out you’d be on Season 3?
CR: Totally hyped. We were so excited.JF: When I found out we made Season 3 World of Dance, it was unbelievable. The biggest dance competition in the world and we made it. I was really shocked at first, like really shocked! It felt amazing when I found out I was on something this big for doing something I love to do.
WOD: What style are you performing, and why?
CR: We are performing a hip hop fusion of a few street styles including popping, funk, hip hop, bopping, and jookin. I like that it’s more old school and it gives Funkanometry a unique flavour.JF: The style Funkanometry uses is a mixture of popping and hip-hop. Each round we brought a different style inside of hip-hop and popping, such as for the qualifier round, we brought a funky feel, for the duels round we brought more of an aggressive battle feel, with hard hits and vibrates, and for the cut, we showed our skills in animation.
WOD: Where do you draw inspiration from? Who/what inspires you?
CR: We are inspired by the word “showmanship”. After that, the freestyle that comes from doing dance battles and finding new and different music are big inspirations and help us with fresh concepts.JF: What really inspires me in dance is the music. I really try to match the feeling of the music. I use my musicality skills to achieve this. I just feel like music has always motivated me in some way, it always makes me feel an emotion, and that certain emotion motivates me to move, and match the music.
WOD: Why do you think dance is important to the world?
CR: Dance connects people and cultures. Even if you don’t speak the same language or believe in the same things, you can communicate through music and dance.JF: I think dance is important to the world because it is a great way to express your emotions. I also believe that dancing keeps you healthy and fit.
WOD: What are you most excited/nervous about being on the show?
CR: I’m most excited about being in LA and sharing what we do with such a big audience and meeting so many new people. And meeting JLo, Neyo and Derek for sure.JF: The thing I was most excited about when I was on the show was to perform on that stage in front of those people. That’s all I wanted to do the whole time I was there. I just wanted to show the world who I am by putting on an entertaining show. The thing I was most nervous about being on the show was probably messing up a certain move or trick on stage. It was a massive opportunity in my dance career, and I definitely did not want to mess it up!
