4 Amazing Moments from Jennifer Lopez’s Early Career
Jennifer Lopez is a well-known triple threat. We all know about her successful music career and acting gigs, but it all started on the dance floor. To celebrate the NBC World of Dance Season 3 premier on Feb. 26, we've gathered our top 4 moments that shaped J-Lo’s career from the beginning.
#1: New Kids on the Block
This was J-Lo’s first big break! She can be seen dancing with New Kids on the Block in this clip of their 1991 performance at the American Music Awards. She cited this particular performance as her break out moment on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2011.
#2: Fly Girl
Jennifer Lopez was part of the all-girl dance group, Fly Girls from the comedy sketch television show, Living in Color. Jennifer Lopez joined this group in 1991 during the show’s third season. She auditioned among 2,000 other dancers trying out for the role. The Fly Girls danced with high energy and a lot of sass! Spot Jennifer Lopez in this Fly Girls clip! She is the one wearing a white shirt with black buttons.
#3: Janet Jackson Backup Dancer
In 1993 Jennifer Lopez became a backup dancer for Janet Jackson. It only seems right that J-Lo was dancing backup for a big star before she became one herself! She was supposed to join Janet Jackson’s dance crew for the Janet World Tour, however she decided instead to focus on her solo career. She was in Janet Jackson’s music video for “That’s the Way Love Goes” though!
#4: First #1 Movie and Album in the Same Week
In 2001, Jennifer Lopez was the first person to have both an album and a movie at the top of the charts in the same week! This is a huge feat that truly drives home how multi-talented she is. The movie The Wedding Planner was the go-to date movie while her Album J.Lo was getting everyone on the dance floor.
It’s hard to imagine Jennifer Lopez before she was the superstar that she is today, but it turns out that even before she became massively famous, she was just as amazing! Jennifer Lopez gained invaluable experience and recognition as a dancer on television, and now shares that with dancers on NBC World of Dance.
