Stay Hydrated
You've heard it before- good skin starts from the inside. According to NYC-based dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Hale in a Bustle article, "More than anything, making sure your skin stays hydrated during the winter is an important step to ramp up in your skin care routine. During the coldest months of the year, we experience transepidermal water loss, which can leave your skin dry and itchy." Invest in a water bottle and sip frequently throughout the day to avoid those winter skin blues.https://www.instagram.com/p/BfzZDQHlfAi/?utm_source=ig_embed
Modify Your Skincare Routine
Skip the harsh cleansers, toners, and acne treatments during the winter months. Opt for gentle fragrance-free cleansers for your face and body that don't strip away moisture from the skin. In a Huffington Post article, dermatologist Dr. Samer Jaber suggests that if you're dealing with acne to try using products with ceramides and glycerin to repair and protect your skin’s moisture barrier. And, of course, invest in a good daily moisturizer and use it!https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Vg1s2nueb/
Invest in a Humidifier
Consider running a humidifier in your home and office to add moisture into the air, which will ultimately help keep skin hydrated. Blasting the heater all winter can really dry your skin out so run the humidifier in the rooms you spend the most time in, particularly your bedroom.https://www.instagram.com/p/B5SD_S_HJCH/
Wear Sunscreen- Even On Cloudy Days
Wearing sunscreen should be a part of your daily routine- even on the greyest of days. The sun reflects off the snow on bright winter days, putting you at risk of burning. And don't be fooled by dark, cloudy days either, the suns UV rays can still penetrate through and cause damage. So before you leave the house, apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 to all exposed areas- your skin will thank you!https://www.instagram.com/p/B5N-XnJoPYl/
Turn Down The Water Temperature
We know its tempting to crank up the heat in the shower after spending a day outside in the cold, but you may want to rethink that habit. Hot water evaporates faster and, if you don't moisturize you skin right away, it can leave your skin itchy and dehydrated. If you just can't give up your hot baths and showers, consider purchasing an in-shower lotion to help keep that skin glowing.https://www.instagram.com/p/B5VplOOIkhk/
Moisturize Often, Particularly Your Hands
Since winter is also cold and flu season, it's likely that you'll be washing your hands more frequently. While this is good advice for avoiding the sniffles, it can seriously dry out your skin so keep some hand cream next to the sink and moisturize your hands after each washing. Also consider wearing waterproof gloves when washing the dishes or cleaning the house. We personally love to slather our hands with a heavy cream or Vaseline at night, then slip the into some cotton socks or moisturizing gloves before we got to sleep. You'll wake up with buttery soft skin and avoid painful cracking.https://www.instagram.com/p/B5VUqmjAqeo/
