2025.03.12

Team Intro

Creative Reaction came in 3rd place at WOD Boston this year and is absolutely killing it! Let’s take a look inside the team’s outstanding performance.

Creative Reaction is a collective of passionate dancers who share a deep love for their art. “Creative Reaction is a diverse family who all share an immense passion for dance.” The team takes great pride in creating unforgettable moments on stage, aiming to inspire audiences through their movements.

Representing the East Coast, Creative Reaction is primarily based in Philadelphia, PA. One of their biggest goals is to expand their studios into neighboring cities. “Our goal is to eventually have our own company tour and multiple studio facilities in different cities within the next five years.”

Creative Reaction has been competing in World of Dance competitions, known as WOD, since 2018. Throughout their time at WOD, their favorite memory was winning WOD New Jersey in 2023 with their incredible piece, “Without Infamous Racecar Set.”

This year, at WOD Boston, they took home the third-place trophy with their contemporary team. Check out some shots from their performance!

Performance Elements

Lets breakdown this epic performance.

The team’s inspiration for the piece was "simply an HBCU homecoming." Creative Reaction wanted to show their pride for HBCUs and represent their school, “We wanted to honor the pride that HBCUs and their attendees have and how proud they are to represent their school.” with this in mind, the team wanted to chose a medley of songs, that either the marching bands at homecomings perform or popular songs at HBCU events.

After looking back at their performance, it posed a challenge for the team. They wanted to focus on digging deeper into their theme, more than in previous performances, being very detailed in each element of the performance, “... down to music selection, costuming, choreography, roles and in general studying our theme as a team prior to executing the set. We didn’t want anything to come off as appropriation and wanted it all to be correct.” taking into the culture of HBCU into consideration and making the performance as authentic as possible.

Creative Reaction states, “HBCUs are so prideful in their experience and representation, so we wanted to do something that would make any real drum major, majorette dancer, marching band member proud."

A big standout moment for the team had to have been the entire opening number. They felt this was their strongest moment as a team and fully engaged the audience, ’It’s super strong and in your face and we really make the audience feel like they’re watching an actual halftime show. creative reaction had a strong performance this year at WOD Boston, however they stated that their biggest challenge was performing in a different location than what they were use to, coming in with new members who had never done a competition before, “...going into new territory with half of the team being brand new members as of August & September of this year. Some of these members also has never competed in their lives so WOD being their first competition ever was a different type of pressure for them.

Competition Prep

When talking about the preparation for this piece, Creative Reaction loves to get their mind and body focused with a early hip-hop and R&B 2000s throwbacks playlist. The team loves to sing together as they stretch, creating a focused mindset for the team to be in as they set to rehearse or perform.

As for returning next season, the team will definitely return. But you just might have to see them in a different city, “we will more than likely be back at WOD in a different city!”

We cannot wait to see Creative Reaction on our WOD stage again!
